"You will give me an explanation at once," says Geoffrey, slowly, addressing his cousin. "What brought you here?" "Ah," they replied, "he is dead. Five days ago he went out to hunt and he did not come back. What shall we do? We have lost him who cared for us"; and they cried and mourned again. (If only Lady Rodney could have heard him comparing her to a "sand-boy"!) In those days the people had built a great piskun with high, strong walls. No buffalo could jump over it; not even if a great crowd of them ran against it, could they push it down. Geoffrey, who has tears in his eyes, takes her in his arms and kisses her once softly, before them all..
